Abstract
In accounting and finance, promoting good ethical and cultural standards is imperative. Members and other stakeholders, including legislative regulators, have a common responsibility. One assumes that the outcome will be an enterprise of honesty and ingenuity when ethics and culture are merged in the practice of accounting and finance. In accounting and finance, the emphasis of this paper is ethical and cultural concerns. In this research, a descriptive methodology was employed. The recent financial scandals have been marked by deeper problems and have established the enhancement of ethical standards, adequacy of financial management, monitoring processes, audit quality, and reinforcement of governance regimes as a way of enhancing public faith in financial reporting. These fields, whose failures have led to corporate scandals and crashes, are the responsibility of the accounting profession. Focus on human resources will promote self-actualization and professionalism; enforcement and adherence will be promoted by an institution with a strong cultural and ethical context supported by laws and regulations; combining expertise with honesty will uplift ethical and cultural standards without impacting innovation and initiative. Among other items, we suggest that accountants and financial analysts play a major role in holding directors and management on their toes.
